Dr. Rubana Haq Selected New VC of Asian University for Women
The Asian University for Women (AUW) in Chattogram, Bangladesh, has chosen Dr. Rubana Huq as vice-chancellor. The appointment takes effect on February 15, 2022, according to a press release issued by the AUW on the day. So, Dr. Rubana Haq Selected New VC of Asian University for Women.
Dr. Rubana Huq follows Professor Nirmala Rao, a famous political scientist who departed from the AUW after five years as vice-chancellor. She is the first woman to serve as the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president.
She has a Ph.D. in literature from India’s Jadavpur University and published her poetry. Dr. Huq has served on the AUW Board of Trustees as a trustee and, more recently, as vice-chairman of the Board of Trustees.
Additionally, she was a driving force behind the AUW’s Pathways for Promise initiative, which allows extraordinary talent from Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) factories to attend the university.
In 2013 and 2014, she was named one of the BBC’s top 100 women globally. Dr. Huq is also a visiting fellow at New York University’s Stern School of Business and Harvard University’s Asia Center.
The AUW is committed to women’s education and leadership development through liberal arts and sciences education. It was founded in 2008.
